John J. Cowin, President and CEO, BS degree in Mining Engineering from Stanford University and MS degree from the University of Alabama. Except for service as a First Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers, has spent his entire career in mine construction with Cowin and Company, Inc.

Alwyn D. Protheroe, Vice President-Engineering, degreed from Swansea Technical College in Great Britain.  He has experience in mine construction with the National Coal Board and the Thyssen Corporation in Great Britain and overseas.  He also has many years experience working with Cowin in the United States.

John J. Cowin, Jr., Vice President-Operations, BA degree from the University of Alabama. Works closely with our customers concerning quality control and production, and is directly responsible for production and supervision on all jobsites for Cowin & Company, Inc.

John D. Moore, Vice President-Human Resources & Safety, Western Kentucky University 1981 in Business Administration. Responsible for Company safety program, compliance with state and federal laws, workers compensation, safety training and human resources.

Herbert C. Gibson, Jr., Chief Engineer, BS degree in Mining Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Has worked in the underground construction industry since 1974, in various production, engineering, and management capacities.

Harry L. Barkley, P.E.
, Chief Field Engineer, BS degree Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Has worked in engineering and production capacities within our organization for over 37 years.

Richard Sidwell, General Manager of our Raisebor division specializing in large diameter raise drilling operations. He has over thirty years experience in the industry in various capacities “from crown to ground.”

Frank Stevens, Sr. Project Manager, BS degrees in Civil Engineering and Soils from Auburn University and a MBA from Samford University. Since 1990, Frank has worked in various capacities within the mining and heavy construction industries including estimating, project management, and general management.

Mark Charlton, General Superintendent, has “hands on” experience in shaft, slope and other underground and surface mining projects.  He has been with the company for the past 30 years.

Ron Robinson, Area Superintendent, works closely under our General Superintendent, and is responsible for all jobs in the Appalachian Area.

Rebecca Scanlan, Corporate Secretary and Administrative Manager, BS Commerce & Business Administration from the University of Alabama, BS Accounting from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Master’s in International Business Studies from the University of South Carolina. Certified Management Accountant. Supervises accounting and office administration.
