We’ve successfully crafted tunnels for sewers, highways, railroads, and hydroelectric projects, as well as mine access tunnels. These tunnel construction projects showcase our versatility in both size and scope. Our tunnels have ranged from a few feet to an impressive forty feet in diameter and extended over several miles in length.

Railroad Tunnels and Hydroelectric Projects

Cowin & Co has undertaken the construction of new railroad tunnels and the enlargement of tunnels under live traffic. In the hydroelectric sector, we have built both river diversion tunnels and power tunnels which deliver water to the generators. While highway tunnels are less common today, we’ve successfully completed several, including those for the nation’s interstate highway system.

Expertise in Hard Rock Mining

Specializing in hard rock mining, Cowin & Co has driven several miles of tunnels in zinc mines, ranging in size from 8’x 12′ to 16’x 18′. We’ve also worked in limestone mines and quarries.

Limestone Mines and Quarry Development

We have been involved in limestone mines, constructing tunnels and development work, with dimensions reaching up to 30 feet in width and 28 feet in height. Additionally, we’ve undertaken excavation and installation of large crushers in these mines.

Highwall Securing in Quarries

Securing highwalls is a specialized service we provide in quarries, involving scaling and bolting, along with the application of hanging wire mesh and shotcreting when required.
